CHAPTER 5 – The Man Behind the Gate

Later that evening, Lucas saw him again.

Trent.

The security man stood near the hallway entrance, watching without expression.

Lucas approached him.

“You took it,” Lucas said quietly.

Trent didn’t react. “I took what?”

“The wallet.”

A flicker—barely visible—crossed Trent’s face.

Then it vanished.

“I suggest you be careful with accusations,” Trent said.

Lucas stepped closer. “She already knows.”

That was enough to break the mask.

For half a second.

Then Trent leaned in slightly.

“You think you understand this house?” he murmured. “You don’t understand anything here.”

Before Lucas could respond, Trent walked away.

But something had changed.
