CHAPTER 2 – THE VANISHING OFFER

Sienna didn’t sleep that night.
Not because she felt guilty.
But because something didn’t fit.
Grant Vale wasn’t on any normal database of wealth.
No interviews.
No public portfolio.
No corporate footprint large enough to justify Bellwether.
By morning, her phone was already vibrating.
“Glass House listing has been pulled,” her manager said.
“What?”
“Buyer withdrew. No explanation.”
Sienna sat up slowly.
“That’s impossible.”
But it wasn’t.
Because she knew exactly which buyer.
Grant Vale.
Except now—he was unreachable.
No messages answered.
No trace of him online.
It was as if the man at Bellwether had never existed outside that room.
Meanwhile, at a private office above the financial district, Grant stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window.
A woman entered.
“Confirmation came through,” she said. “She reacted exactly as predicted.”
Grant didn’t turn.
“And the staff?”
“All observed. Eli included.”
At the mention of the name, Grant’s eyes flickered slightly.
“Good,” he said.
The woman hesitated.
“Was it necessary to test her this way?”
Grant finally turned.
His expression was calm.
“People don’t fail at money,” he said. “They fail at power they think they’re entitled to.”
A pause.
“And Sienna?”
“She failed at dignity first.”
Silence.

Then he added:
“Most people do.”
