CHAPTER 1: THE BALLROOM BECAME HER PRISON

CHAPTER 1: THE BALLROOM BECAME HER PRISON
“Dad…
Seal the exits.”
I didn’t raise my voice.
I didn’t scream.
I simply spoke into my phone while wiping the blood from the corner of my mouth.
Above me, crystal chandeliers bathed the charity gala in golden light. Champagne sparkled. An orchestra played softly, pretending the world was still elegant.
No one acknowledged the bruise forming beneath my eye.
Or perhaps they noticed…
and chose to enjoy it.
The heir of the city’s most powerful family stepped closer, adjusting his diamond cufflinks.
He smiled like a man who had never been punished in his life.
“So? Did your rescue team get lost?”
Laughter spread through the crowd.
Guests didn’t intervene. They never did.
Because they believed the same illusion:
I had no power here.
I lifted my phone again.
“Deploy the security unit. Seal the entire estate.”
A pause.
Then—
“Understood, ma’am.”
The line cut.
The heir laughed louder.
“Ma’am?” he mocked. “Is that your fantasy title?”
I slipped the phone into my purse.
Then I looked up at the cameras.
And smiled.
BOOM.
Steel barriers slammed down across every exit.
The sound shattered the music.
Glass trembled.
The laughter died instantly.
For the first time…
he looked uncertain.
“What did you do?” he whispered.
I stepped closer.
“You made one mistake.”
His throat tightened.
“What mistake?”
I leaned in.
“You assumed the doors were to keep people out.”
A final lock engaged.
May you like
“No,” I whispered.
“They were built to keep you in.”
