Chapter 6: What Success Really Looks Like
That evening, Michael and Sarah stopped for burgers at the small diner they had visited since he was ten.
No reporters.
No speeches.
No expensive celebrations.
Just the two of them.
Sarah smiled through tired eyes.
"I'm sorry your graduation became so dramatic."
Michael laughed.
"It didn't."
"It became honest."
He reached into his backpack and pulled out the graduation medal.
"You keep this."
She frowned.
"You earned it."
He shook his head.
"I only wore it."
"You earned every part of it."
Tears filled Sarah's eyes again.
For years she had worried that the sacrifices would be forgotten.
Instead, they had become the foundation of the man sitting across from her.
