Chapter 3: The Mask Comes Off

Chapter 3: The Mask Comes Off
Margaret slammed both hands against the kitchen counter.
"Because she doesn't deserve that child!"
Everyone froze.
Even the officers looked stunned.
She pointed directly at me.
"She trapped my son."
"What?"
"You heard me."
Tears rolled down her face.
Real tears.
But they weren't tears of grief.
They were tears of obsession.
"You stole him from me."
Alejandro stared at her as if she'd become a complete stranger.
"He was supposed to stay with his family."
"Mom..."
"He was supposed to need me."
"Mom."
"But then she showed up."
Her finger never left me.
"She got pregnant."
The room fell silent.
Then Margaret whispered something so chilling that nobody breathed.
"I was only trying to save my grandson."
The detective frowned.
"Save him from what?"
Margaret laughed.
A strange...
Broken laugh.
Then she whispered,
"From becoming hers."
Nobody moved.
Because this wasn't about money anymore.
Or inheritance.
Or custody.
This was obsession.
And obsession was dangerous.
The detective took one careful step toward her.
"Mrs. Castillo..."
"I need you to come with us."
For a split second...
Margaret glanced upstairs.
Everyone noticed.
Including the detective.
"What is upstairs?"
Margaret's face lost every bit of color.
The detective turned to one officer.
"Go check."
The officer disappeared upstairs.
The house fell silent.
Then—
A scream echoed from above.
"Detective!"
May you like
"You need to see this!"
