The fire in the hearth flared without wind.
Candles bent toward her like they were bowing.
Mara’s breathing quickened.
“No… stop…”
But the room responded to her fear.
The glass trembled.
The water in the pitcher rose slightly, hovering.
A soft crack echoed through the walls.
She pressed her hands to her chest.
“I don’t want this.”
The flames immediately lowered.
Everything stilled.
As if the palace itself was listening.
The door burst open.
The king froze.
And for the first time, he did not look at her as fragile.
He looked at her as dangerous.
But not in fear.
In recognition.
“It’s awakening faster than I expected,” he murmured.
Mara backed away.
“What is happening to me?”
He did not answer immediately.

Then:
“The kingdom doesn’t just want its heir back,” he said quietly. “It wants its balance restored.”
