CHAPTER 2: THE FILE

CHAPTER 2: THE FILE

The investigator arrived too late.

The ceremony had already begun.

Victoria panicked.

For years she had been trying to uncover the truth.

Now she finally had proof.

Proof that Ryan wasn't the man Emma believed he was.

As the wedding guests stood and applauded, Victoria interrupted the ceremony.

Everyone gasped.

Ryan's face darkened.

"Mother, sit down."

"No."

Victoria walked toward Emma.

Holding the file.

Emma rolled her eyes.

Another attempt to ruin her wedding.

She refused to look.

Then a photograph slipped from the folder.

Emma froze.

The woman in the picture looked exactly like her.

Another photograph.

Another woman.

Same face.

Third photograph.

Same face again.

"What is this?"

Victoria whispered:

"Your predecessors."

The church fell silent.

Inside the file were records of three women.

Three former fiancées.

Three women Ryan had almost married.

All of them disappeared shortly before their weddings.

No one ever found them.

Emma's heart began pounding.

She slowly turned toward Ryan.

He smiled.

A calm, perfect smile.

Too perfect.

Victoria finally revealed the truth.

The women were not random.

They all shared the same profile:

Poor background.

No close relatives.

No one who would investigate too deeply.

Exactly like Emma.

Suddenly Ryan lunged forward and ripped the file from Victoria's hands.

The guests screamed.

For the first time, the mask slipped.

The charming prince vanished.

And something much darker appeared underneath.
