CHAPTER SIX The Man She Hated... Called Her Family

CHAPTER SIX
The Man She Hated... Called Her Family
The old man's silver cane rested against the marble headstone.
For a long moment...
Neither of them spoke.
The cemetery was silent except for the wind.
Megan slowly stood.
Her eyes were no longer filled with hatred.
Only disbelief.
"...Why are you here?"
The old man looked at Michael Sullivan's grave.
"I come every year."
"You simply never noticed."
Megan laughed bitterly.
"You lost the right to visit him fifteen years ago."
"I lost many things fifteen years ago."
he replied quietly.
"But not him."
The old man was Henry Sullivan.
Michael Sullivan's father.
One of the wealthiest industrialists in the country.
Owner of Sullivan Heavy Industries.
For fifteen years...
The public believed the Sullivan family had died in bankruptcy after the warehouse fire.
That wasn't true.
The company had survived.
The family had survived.
Only Michael...
hadn't.
"You abandoned us."
Megan's voice trembled.
"When Mom begged you for help..."
"You chose your reputation."
Henry closed his eyes.
"I know."
"My lawyers convinced me that admitting the truth would destroy the company."
"So you let them call my father negligent."
"You let the city blame him."
"You let the newspapers paint him as the man who caused the fire."
Henry lowered his head.
"Yes."
Tears slowly rolled down Megan's face.
"My mother couldn't survive that."
"She died believing everyone hated him."
Henry whispered,
"I know."
Megan took a step back.
"I don't have a grandfather."
"I buried him fifteen years ago."
She turned to leave.
Henry stopped her with one sentence.
"Then why did you keep my last name?"
Megan froze.
Henry reached into his coat pocket.
He removed a faded envelope.
"I've been looking for you for years."
"You kept disappearing."
"I finally found you six months ago."
Megan didn't turn around.
"So?"
"I investigated."
Henry's voice became heavy.
"I know what you've been doing."
Silence.
"I know about Noah."
"I know about Charles."
"I know about Ella."
"I know about Rachel."
"And I know..."
"...you never loved either man."
Megan slowly faced him again.
Her expression was unreadable.
"You made them fall in love with an illusion."
Henry continued.
"You never crossed the line."
"You never slept with them."
"You only made them believe they were special."
"You let their own egos destroy their marriages."
Megan smiled faintly.
"They did that themselves."
"You simply handed them the knife."
Henry answered.
She didn't deny it.
Henry stepped closer.
"You've become smarter than I ever imagined."
"But you've made one fatal mistake."
Megan's eyes narrowed.
"What mistake?"
Henry looked directly into her eyes.
"You chose the wrong family."
For the first time...
Megan looked confused.
Henry continued.
"You investigated Noah."
"You investigated Charles."
"You investigated everyone."
"But you never investigated Ella."
"I didn't need to."
Megan replied coldly.
"She was only collateral damage."
Henry sighed.
"No."
"You've underestimated her."
Across the city...
Ella finally left the house.
Not the mansion she had shared with Noah.
But a small apartment she had quietly rented after leaving the hospital.
She wore jeans.
A gray sweater.
Dark sunglasses.
No makeup.
No jewelry.
She looked like an ordinary widow.
She entered a small café.
Sat alone by the window.
Ordered black coffee.
No one recognized her.
Or so she thought.
Five minutes later...
A black SUV stopped outside.
Then another.
Then another.
Six vehicles.
More than a dozen men in tailored black suits stepped out.
The customers inside the café exchanged nervous glances.
One by one...
The men formed two perfectly straight lines leading to Ella's table.
The café owner whispered,
"Who are they?"
No one knew.
The front door opened again.
An elderly woman entered.
Elegant.
Graceful.
Despite her age...
The room seemed to fall silent the moment she appeared.
She walked directly to Ella.
Without saying a word...
She embraced her.
"My child..."
Ella's composure shattered.
For the first time since losing her baby...
She cried.
Not quietly.
Not politely.
She sobbed like a little girl.
The elderly woman held her tightly.
"I'm sorry..."
"I wasn't here."
Ella whispered through tears,
"I couldn't save him..."
The woman kissed her forehead.
"No."
"You couldn't."
"But now..."
She gently wiped away Ella's tears.
"It's our turn to protect you."
Every man in the café lowered his head.
Not to Ella.
To the elderly woman.
One of them spoke respectfully.
"Madam..."
"The board members have all arrived."
Ella slowly looked up.
Her eyes had changed.
The helpless wife...
was gone.
Only calm remained.
She took a deep breath.
Then quietly said,
"Let's go."
One of the bodyguards opened the café door.
Outside...
A customized Rolls-Royce Phantom waited with its rear door already open.
The café owner gasped.
"Who... is she?"
The elderly woman answered without looking back.
"My granddaughter."
Then she smiled softly.
"And the future chairwoman..."
"...of the Ashford Group."
The entire café fell silent.
At that exact moment...
Henry Sullivan's phone vibrated.
He glanced at the message.
His expression changed immediately.
Megan noticed.
"What happened?"
Henry looked at her with pity.
"You wanted revenge..."
"But you've just awakened someone far more dangerous than you."
He turned the screen toward her.
It showed only one headline.
ASHFORD GROUP EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING CONVENED. CHAIRWOMAN'S GRANDDAUGHTER RETURNS AFTER THREE YEARS.
Megan stared at the words.
Her heartbeat quickened.
"Ashford..."
She whispered the name to herself.
Then suddenly...
Her face turned white.
"No..."
Henry nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"The woman whose life you destroyed..."
"...isn't just Noah's wife."
He looked straight at Megan.
"She's an Ashford."
"And once that family declares war..."
"They never stop until there's nothing left."
For the first time in fifteen years...
Megan felt fear.
May you like
Real fear.
