Chapter 6 – The Binder

Chapter 6 – The Binder

"Mrs. Morton."

Grace's voice was calm, almost gentle.

She knelt beside me while the rest of the room remained frozen.

"Can you stand?"

I nodded.

With one hand beneath my arm, she helped me to my feet. My hip screamed in protest, but I refused to let anyone see it.

Not Richard.

Not Blake.

Especially not Blake.

He had already taken enough from me today.

He wasn't taking my dignity.

Grace turned toward the table.

"Nobody leaves."

Richard frowned.

"I beg your pardon?"

"I said," Grace repeated, "nobody leaves this room."

Her confidence caught everyone off guard.

Richard laughed.

"You're an attorney, not a police officer."

Grace smiled.

"No."

"But I arrived before anyone had the chance to erase what just happened."

The smile disappeared from Richard's face.

Grace walked to the center of the conference table and placed the black leather binder in front of her.

Click.

The metal clasp unlocked.

The sound echoed through the silent room.

Blake folded his arms.

"So what's in there?"

Grace looked directly at him.

"Your future."

He rolled his eyes.

"This is ridiculous."

"I agree."

She opened the first page.

"It was ridiculous to pressure your mother into surrendering assets."

She turned another page.

"It was even more ridiculous to assault her in a building equipped with high-definition security cameras."

Blake's face paled.

Richard spoke immediately.

"He barely touched her."

Grace didn't even acknowledge him.

Instead, she removed a printed photograph.

It showed Blake grabbing my wrist.

A second photograph.

His hand against my shoulder.

A third.

My body falling backward.

Every frame carried the exact timestamp.

Every second documented.

Every lie destroyed.

The room fell completely silent.

Linda cleared her throat.

"Pictures don't tell the whole story."

Grace calmly slid a flash drive onto the table.

"Fortunately..."

"...the video does."

No one moved.

Even Richard stopped pretending to smile.

Grace continued.

"This footage has already been copied to three secure locations."

She paused just long enough for the words to sink in.

"So before anyone suggests deleting evidence..."

"...don't."

Blake suddenly exploded.

"She made me angry!"

His voice echoed off the glass walls.

"She kept provoking me!"

Grace raised one eyebrow.

"So your defense is that your mother deserved to be shoved?"

"I didn't say that!"

"You just did."

Blake opened his mouth again.

Nothing came out.

For the first time in his life...

Someone had trapped him with his own words.

Grace slowly turned to the final section of the binder.

"The Morton Legacy Trust."

Richard's eyes widened.

"What trust?"

"The one finalized three days ago."

Silence.

I watched Richard's expression change.

Confusion.

Disbelief.

Then fear.

Real fear.

He looked at me.

"You transferred everything?"

"I protected everything."

Grace nodded.

"Every company share."

"Every property."

"Every investment account."

"Every collectible vehicle."

"Every significant asset owned by Evelyn Morton."

Blake stared at me.

"You... you already moved everything?"

"Yes."

His confidence cracked completely.

"But..."

"You couldn't."

"I already did."

Grace flipped to one page marked with a bright blue tab.

"I'd like to read one clause aloud."

Richard took a step forward.

"That's unnecessary."

"It is extremely necessary."

She adjusted her glasses and began reading.

"Any beneficiary who attempts to coerce, threaten, manipulate, intimidate, or physically harm the Grantor for financial gain shall be immediately and permanently disqualified from receiving any present or future distribution from the Morton Legacy Trust."

Every word landed like a hammer.

Blake blinked.

"What does... disqualified mean?"

Grace slowly closed the binder.

Then she looked him straight in the eyes.

"It means..."

"You stopped being your mother's heir..."

"...the moment you pushed her to the floor."

Blake's face drained of every trace of color.

May you like

Then, before anyone could speak another word—

Richard lunged toward the binder.
