A year later, Luca asked to see the family ring.
Elena took it from the drawer where she had hidden it for years.
The black stone no longer looked powerful.
Only heavy.
Adrian gently slid it toward his son.
"It will never be a throne."
"It should only remind you where we came from."
Luca looked at the ring for a long moment.
Then smiled.
Instead of keeping it...
He placed it back into Elena's hand.
"You kept it safe before."
For the first time...
The ring no longer represented fear.
