Chapter 1
CHAPTER 2 — THE DEAD MAN'S SECRET
"What did you just say?" Emily asked.
Noah swallowed.
Before answering, he looked at Juliette.
Fear filled his eyes.
But he spoke anyway.
"Dad hid something."
Juliette's face hardened.
"Noah."
The boy flinched.
"He gave me a flash drive."
Silence.
Even the bodyguards stopped moving.
Emily stared.
"A flash drive?"
Noah nodded.
"The night before he died."
Juliette immediately stepped forward.
"He's lying."
But one of the bodyguards suddenly spoke.
"No, he's not."
Everyone turned.
The guard looked pale.
Sweat rolled down his forehead.
Juliette glared at him.
"What are you doing?"
The man looked at Emily.
Then at Noah.
Then back at Juliette.
"I can't do this anymore."
Juliette's face drained of color.
The guard reached into his pocket.
Pulled out a small recorder.
Pressed play.
A man's voice filled the rooftop.
Christopher's voice.
"If you're hearing this, something happened to me."
Emily stopped breathing.
"I discovered that Juliette has been stealing from the company."
Juliette lunged toward the guard.
He stepped back.
The recording continued.
"And if I disappear, it wasn't an accident."
Emily felt tears fill her eyes.
Christopher.
Her husband.
His voice was real.
Alive.
Then another voice echoed across the rooftop.
Not from the recorder.
From above.
A helicopter.
Everyone looked up.
The aircraft descended toward the roof.
Wind exploded across the concrete.
Juliette staggered backward.
The door opened.
A man stepped out.
Emily's heart nearly stopped.
"No..."
The man removed his sunglasses.
Christopher.
Her husband.
Alive.
Three years after being declared dead.
Juliette stumbled.
"That's impossible."
Christopher looked directly at her.
"You should've checked the body yourself."
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
The impossible had just happened.
But Christopher wasn't smiling.
May you like
His eyes were fixed on Juliette.
And they were filled with anger.
