Chapter 2
CHAPTER 3 — THE LAST BETRAYAL
Juliette suddenly laughed.
A wild laugh.
A desperate laugh.
"You think you've won?"
Federal agents stepped onto the rooftop.
Christopher walked toward Emily.
Toward Noah.
Toward the family he hadn't seen in three years.
Then Juliette shouted:
"Tell him the truth, Emily."
Christopher stopped.
Emily's face turned pale.
Juliette smiled again.
There it was.
The final card.
The final secret.
"You never told him, did you?"
Christopher frowned.
"Emily?"
Tears filled her eyes.
For years she had buried the truth.
For years she had hoped it would never matter.
But now there was nowhere left to hide.
"Christopher..."
Her voice cracked.
"Noah isn't your biological son."
Silence.
The rooftop became completely still.
Noah looked terrified.
Emily couldn't even look at Christopher.
Juliette smiled triumphantly.
"I told you."
Christopher stared at the boy.
Noah began crying.
"I'm sorry."
The little boy lowered his head.
"I didn't mean to..."
Christopher didn't answer.
For several long seconds.
Then he slowly knelt.
Right in front of Noah.
The boy trembled.
Christopher placed both hands on his shoulders.
And asked softly:
"Who taught you how to ride a bike?"
Noah blinked.
"What?"
"Who stayed up all night when you had pneumonia?"
Noah's lips trembled.
"You."
"Who taught you how to throw a baseball?"
"You."
Christopher smiled.
"Then what exactly changed?"
Juliette's confidence disappeared.
Christopher pulled Noah into a tight hug.
The boy burst into tears.
"I love you, Dad."
Christopher closed his eyes.
"I love you too."
Juliette screamed.
"No!"
But nobody was listening anymore.
Federal agents moved in.
Handcuffs clicked around her wrists.
Christopher turned toward the agents.
"She forged company records."
The first cuff clicked.
"She attempted murder."
The second cuff clicked.
"She framed my wife and had her committed."
Juliette's knees nearly gave out.
Everything was over.
The money.
The lies.
The fake will.
The years of manipulation.
Gone.
As agents dragged her away, she looked at Emily one last time.
Hatred burned in her eyes.
Emily simply held Noah tighter.
For the first time in three years, she wasn't afraid.
Christopher wrapped an arm around both of them.
Together they walked toward the waiting helicopter.
Toward a new beginning.

And behind them, Juliette finally faced the one thing she had never imagined.
The consequences.
