Chapter 1 — The Woman Who Dropped the Champagne
The grand ballroom of the Ashford Foundation Gala glittered beneath towering crystal chandeliers. White marble columns stretched toward the ceiling while gold confetti sparkled across the polished black floor. Every influential family in New York seemed to be gathered under one roof.
At the center of the stage stood Evelyn Carter.
Thirty-two years old, breathtaking in a crimson designer gown, Evelyn was the perfect image of American high society. Her sleek black bob framed a beautiful face marked only by a faint cross-shaped scar above her left eyebrow—a scar everyone believed came from a childhood accident she could barely remember.
She smiled gracefully as cameras flashed.
"My husband and I are honored to announce—"
A catering waitress stepped onto the stage carrying a silver tray filled with champagne.
She looked exhausted after hours of work.
Then she raised her eyes.
The tray slipped from her trembling hands.
CRASH!
Crystal exploded across the marble floor.
The ballroom fell completely silent.
Every guest stared as the waitress looked directly at Evelyn.
Their faces...
Were identical.

The waitress whispered in horror,
"...Why do you have my face?"
