Chapter 1 – The Bride They Never Respected

The Grand Crescent Ballroom glittered beneath towering crystal chandeliers, every polished marble column reflecting the wealth gathered beneath its ceiling. CEOs, investors, politicians, and media personalities filled the reception, celebrating what everyone believed would become the business wedding of the year.

Only one guest seemed completely out of place.

Maya wore an elegant but understated wedding gown, refusing the extravagant diamond jewelry Julian's family had prepared for her. Around her neck rested a small sapphire pendant inherited from her late grandmother—a keepsake Julian's mother openly mocked as "provincial."

Every smile directed toward Maya carried hidden contempt.

Throughout dinner, Julian's mother criticized everything—from Maya's posture to the way she held her silverware. The guests laughed politely, eager to stay on the family's good side.

Julian never defended her.

Instead, he entertained executives with stories implying Maya had been "rescued" from an ordinary life.

"Without me," he joked while swirling his wine, "she'd never have stepped inside a ballroom like this."

Laughter echoed through the hall.

Maya lowered her eyes, saying nothing.

But inside, something quietly broke.

She remembered every insult.

Every humiliation.

Every promise Julian had broken after the engagement.

When Julian's mother tossed an expensive silver-fox scarf into Maya's lap and ordered her to "look more sophisticated," Maya slowly stood.

The orchestra stopped.

The room fell silent.

Without a word, she placed the scarf into Julian's dinner plate, splashing dark gravy across his designer tuxedo.

Then she removed her wedding ring.

The sharp metallic clang echoed across the ballroom.

"The wedding ends here."

No one breathed.

No one moved.

No one yet understood that this single sentence would destroy far more than a marriage.
