PART 8: THE GHOST OF MUNICH

PART 8: THE GHOST OF MUNICH
The transition from New York to Germany was a blur of high-altitude clouds and endless streams of data code. Twenty-four hours after the confrontation on Wall Street, Arya found herself sitting in the secure glass-walled conference room of the Kensington AI European Headquarters in Munich. The facility was an architectural masterpiece of steel and glass, overlooking the historic skyline of the Bavarian capital.
Professor Alistair Kensington was projected onto the main wall via a secure holographic link from New York, his face showing the exhaustion of the legal battles back home. "Arya, the European authorities are cooperating, but Julian Cross has spent ten years learning how to live in the digital blind spots. The shell company, Phobos Digital, has operational offices in the Maxvorstadt district, but the local police found nothing but empty desks and wiped hard drives when they raided it this morning."
Arya rubbed her temples, her emerald gown replaced by a tailored charcoal pantsuit. She looked at the network maps displayed on her tablet. "He didn't wipe the drives because he was running, Dad. He wiped them because he was migrating. Look at the power consumption spikes in the sector surrounding the old Munich terminal. He’s not using cloud servers; he’s using a private mainframe."
Marcus Vance entered the room, holding a freshly printed manifest from the local maritime and rail registry. "You were right, Arya. A private container train arrived from the port of Rotterdam three days ago, carrying specialized liquid-cooling computing racks. The shipment was addressed to a private research facility near Lake Starnberg—owned by a holding company called Aletheia Tech."
"Aletheia," Arya murmured, her mathematical mind immediately translating the Greek origin. "The goddess of truth and disclosure. Julian always did have an arrogant sense of irony."
"The property is heavily fortified," Marcus warned. "Private security, biometric gates, and an independent power grid. We can't just walk in with a federal court order from New York. The German local jurisdiction will take weeks to approve a search warrant for a private estate."
"We don't need a search warrant if he invites us in," Arya said, her eyes narrowing as she looked at a fresh email that had just materialized on her screen. It was an invitation, written in an elegant, old-fashioned font, containing nothing but a set of GPS coordinates near the lake and a time stamp for 9:00 PM that evening.
The sender’s address was a simple, untraceable string of characters: [email protected].

"It’s a trap, Arya," Marcus said immediately, stepping between her and the monitor. "He knows we intercepted the Wall Street override. He wants to get you away from the corporate security perimeter."
"Vance tried to trap me with a chemical sedative, and Eleanor tried to trap me with a legal override," Arya said, standing straight, her voice filled with an unshakeable, cold confidence. "Both of them failed because they treated me like a piece of property to be managed. Julian Cross thinks he understands my father's code better than I do. I am going to Lake Starnberg, Marcus. And I’m going to show him what happens when you miscalculate the variable."
