Chapter 10 – The Sleeping Past

Three months later...

The wedding between Nathan and Serena had become front-page news—not because it happened, but because it never did.

Serena disappeared from the public eye after the truth surfaced.

The hospital officially confirmed Emma's years of volunteer care through archived records, staff testimonies, and security footage.

Reporters called her a hero.

She refused every interview.

"I didn't do it for recognition," she simply said.

Nathan, however, couldn't forgive himself so easily.

Every morning, he visited the hospital where he had once spent five years asleep.

Not because he had to.

Because Emma still worked there.

She had accepted her old position after much persuasion from the hospital director.

One rainy evening, Nathan found her watering flowers in the rehabilitation garden.

"You don't have to keep apologizing," Emma said gently without looking up.

"I know."

"But I have to keep earning it."

She smiled faintly.

"For how long?"

Nathan looked at her.

"For as long as it takes."

Months passed.

He never pressured her.

Never asked her to love him.

Instead, he quietly volunteered at the hospital.

He helped families who couldn't afford treatment.

He funded long-term care programs for coma patients.

He created scholarships for nurses and housekeeping staff—the people most often overlooked, yet who carried the greatest compassion.

One afternoon, Emma stopped beside a newly installed marble plaque at the entrance of the hospital's new rehabilitation wing.

Nathan stood next to her.

The plaque read:

Dedicated to the ordinary people whose kindness quietly saves extraordinary lives.

Emma smiled.

"You didn't put my name on it."

Nathan shook his head.

"You never wanted credit."

She looked at him for a long moment.

Then, for the first time since they met again...

she reached for his hand.

Nathan looked down, almost afraid to believe it.

Emma laughed softly through her tears.

"This time..."

"...don't let go."

Nathan gently intertwined his fingers with hers.

"I never will."

Outside, the rain finally stopped.

Warm sunlight broke through the clouds, illuminating the hospital windows where their story had truly begun.

Some memories sleep for years.

Some truths remain buried beneath lies.

But love...

May you like

Real love...

Always finds its way back into the light.
