Chapter 2 – The Photograph

Chapter 2 – The Photograph
Nathan Carter stepped inside, adjusting the cuff of his white tuxedo.
His smile disappeared the moment he sensed the tension.
"What is going on?"
Serena instantly wrapped herself around his arm.
"Oh, nothing." She laughed nervously. "One of the hotel staff wandered into the bridal suite."
Nathan looked toward Emma.
She quickly lowered her head.
For some reason...
Something about her seemed strangely familiar.
Before he could speak, Serena interrupted.
"She used to work at the hospital where you recovered."
Nathan nodded politely.
"I see."
Emma took a shaky breath.
She hadn't planned to speak.
She had promised herself she would leave without changing anything.
But hearing Serena claim a place she had never earned...
She couldn't stay silent anymore.
Slowly, Emma reached into the pocket of her gray uniform.
She unfolded an old black-and-white photograph with trembling hands.
"This..."
Her voice cracked.
"...belongs to you."
Nathan accepted it.
The faded image showed a young man lying unconscious in a hospital bed.
Machines surrounded him.
Beside him sat a woman holding his hand.
Nathan frowned.
"That's..."
"My hospital room," he whispered.
His heartbeat quickened.
Before he could examine the photograph more closely, Serena snatched it away.
Her expression changed for only a fraction of a second.
Then she smiled.
"Oh my God."
She laughed.
"I can't believe you kept this."
Nathan looked at her.
"You've seen it before?"
Serena sighed dramatically.
"Emma has been obsessed with you for years."
May you like
Emma's face went pale.
"That's not true."
