Chapter 6 — The Second War

Chapter 6 — The Second War

The letter was shorter.

Direct.

Personal.

Alejandro, if you are reading this, then Victoria has already begun using Ricardo against you.

Alejandro’s jaw tightened.

The letter continued:

I did not remove Ricardo from the will because I did not love him. I kept him there because I feared what Victoria would do if he felt unwanted.

Elena watched Alejandro’s face carefully.

He wasn’t just reading anymore.

He was remembering.

Every argument.

Every subtle manipulation.

Every time Ricardo turned hostility into entitlement.

The letter continued:

If anything happens to me, assume it was not natural. And if Victoria gains control of the estate, she will not stop at money.

Alejandro stopped.

Looked up.

“Elena…”

She already knew.

“She didn’t just take things from me,” she whispered. “She built something.”

Alejandro turned back to the letter.

The final paragraph:

There is a sealed file in San Marcos Bank. Mateo Alvarez knows where it is. Trust no one else.

Alejandro folded the paper slowly.

Then—

a sound came from outside the unit.

Footsteps.

Elena froze instantly.

Alejandro stepped toward the door.

Another sound.

Metal shifting.

Someone was there.

Watching.

Elena grabbed his sleeve.

“Don’t go out alone.”

But Alejandro didn’t answer.

Because now he understood something important.

This wasn’t just family conflict anymore.

It never was.

It was containment.

Someone had been waiting for them to reach this point.

For years.

Alejandro stepped toward the door.

And slowly—

opened it.

Outside:

empty corridor.

But fresh footprints in the dust.

Leading away.

Not toward them.

Away from the truth.

Alejandro stared at them for a long moment.

Then whispered:

“They know we’re here.”

Elena stepped back slightly.

“Who?”

Alejandro didn’t answer immediately.

Because for the first time—

he wasn’t sure if the enemy was still inside the house…

or had been outside it all along.

He looked at the sealed file name again:

San Marcos Bank

And said quietly:

“We’re not done digging.”

Behind them, the storage light flickered once.

Then went out.
